GLOUCESTER SCHOONER FESTIVAL
The Great Age of Sail
Celebrate the age of sailing on this tour centered on the Gloucester Schooner Festival. Start by boarding a replica of the Mayflower II, the ship that brought the Pilgrims to the New World. Next, learn about maritime history and the 1692 Salem witch trials on a guided tour of Cape Ann. Visit Gloucester, home of “The Perfect Storm,” to see fisherman, mansions, and the artist’s colony of Rockport. At the Gloucester Maritime Heritage Center, discover the secrets of shipbuilding, life on the tall ships, and the perils of fishing, sailing, and diving. Dig into a hearty New England Lobster Dinner, and then participate in the 27th annual Gloucester Schooner Festival. Events include a Coast Guard Station Open House, schooner races, the Boat Parade of Lights, and a fireworks display. Round off the trip with a visit to the historic Boston Tea Party Boat– both a museum and a ship- and then wind down with a leisurely stroll along the Boston Harbor and Rose Kennedy Greenway.
